Guest House: Pyrard’s Paradise

This week we found ourselves on Baa’s tiny island of Fehendhoo – home of the Maldives’ most famous marooned mariner.

Francois Pyrard and his shipmates spent a few tough weeks in ‘paradise’ on this island and Fulhadhoo, next door, in 1602. The Frenchman was soon taken to Male’ to meet the Sultan…though his friends weren’t so lucky.

…but today people can enjoy the cast away experience without those pesky downsides (starvation, death, etc).

The Tropical Village guest house provides perfect conditions from which to enjoy an unspoiled island community. There’s few islands like this one left…well worth the visit.
